Detroit Events and Resources


The Public Swearing In Ceremony for Mayor Dave Bing, City Council and City Clerk Janice Winfrey, Friday, January 8, 2010 at the Fox Theater at 11:00 a.m.  Tickets are available at your Central District Neighborhood City Hall, CAYMC 2 Woodward Ave, Suite 106, 224-2989, on a first come, first served basis. The City of Detroit Warming Center
The city warming center is now open.  Now that frigid temperatures have arrived, the Detroit Department of Human Services has opened its warming center.  The warming center is at Operation Get Down, located at 10100 Harper.  The center, which will be open through mid-February, is open from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. the next morning, including holidays.  When the high temperature stays at 10º or below, the warming center will extend its hours until noon. 
 
Christmas Tree Collection
Detroit residents can place their Christmas trees out for collection on their weekly trash collection day on Monday, Jan. 4 through Friday, Jan. 15.  Residents should place the tree near their Courville container no more than 24 hours before the scheduled pickup.
 
Christmas Tree Recycling
You can drop off trees from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the recycling center at 1330 Holden on Saturday or on your normal bulk trash collection day.
 
Free Detroit People Mover Passes for Senior Citizens
Seniors age 65 and over who live in Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park can receiveone free annual People Mover pass each year.  Details are on the Detroit People Mover website.
