Arts & Advocacy Event

“Michigan’s continuing economic woes are spilling over into the lives of the state’s youngest residents with nearly one out of every four young children (under age 5) living in poverty.” Michigan’s child poverty rate from 2000 – 2007 increased by 40% and confirmed child victims of abuse or neglect rate jumped up to 14 %.

Most of these cases are reported to involve “maltreatment” caused from poverty related issues, such as the inability of parents and caregivers to provide basic necessities like food, heat and clothing.
